Recollections of moving house

Those long hot days of Summer seem a distant memory now except for the 21st August which was moving day! Leaving Uzes was always going to be a wrench as our home there holds so many happy memories. Reality soon kicked in when our removal men arrived. It would seem they hadn't quite understood the location of our house in Uzes, perhaps 'the old ramparts' became lost in translation, we're not sure, but what was apparent was they had a pretty long walk from the house along the lane to the church, around the corner and down some twenty, very uneven steps, before crossing the road with our furniture and loading it in their van. They hadn't brought a single screwdriver with them either, so in the sweltering 40+ degree heat the four of us were dismantling sofa beds and cupboards and lugging everything we could up the lane and leaving it outside of the church ready for loading. What was estimated as a two hour loading took six hours and by the time we arrived at La Maison Verte they had called upon four extra colleagues to help unload. Within an hour of arriving, litres of cold drinks later, lots of banter and many handshakes we were alone. After a late supper we fell into bed exhausted.
